Although shorter than the winter season, summer in Les Gets is no less beautiful or activity packed. Whether you come for the epic downhill mountain biking that it is renowned for, or you are a family looking to experience a range of activities, Les Gets has something for you.
Throughout May and June the snow melts, the slopes turn into stunning green meadows, the cows and goats emerge and freezing cold turns to baking hot. Here are just a few of the exciting opportunities you can take!
Les Gets has been the home of mountain biking in the French Alps, since it hosted the World Championships in 2004. With downhill tracks to challenge every level, cross country tracks for explorers and road biking trials meeting Tour De France standards, the Portes Du Soleil has been described as the European ‘Mecca’ for MTB.
The bike lifts open full time from the last weekend in June – marked by the ‘Passportes Du Soleil’, a massive event giving all types and levels of rider the opportuinty to tour the PDS in a day, see what new stuff the bike companies are offering and eat as many free chocolates and bananas as they can!
Les Gets is also well-known within golfing circles for it’s spectacular mountain course with outstanding views at every hole. Even if you don’t play, it doubles as one of the many beautiful walks you can take across the whole area. Another way to enjoy the views is from the air with a parapente ride from the top of Mont Chery.
If watersports are more your thing, there are opportunities for canyoning, white water rafting and hydrospeeding on the both the Giffre and the Dranse. Alternatively you can enjoy a day on the edge of Lac Leman at Sciez learning to waterski, monoski or wakeboard with a Les Gets based company and highly experienced instructors.
Other exciting activities available throught the summer in Les Gets include swimming in the lake, Morzine pool and the newly opened Aquariaz, a thrilling high ropes adventure parc, and Chatel’s ‘Fantasticable’ zip wire.
Finally, not forgetting regular events throughout the season including the international festival of mechanical music, 4×4 trials, nearby Montreux Jazz Festival and Annecy’s stunning annual fireworks spectacular.
